Pan-Africanist and lawyer Professor, Professor P.L.O Lumumba expressed disgust at African leaders for allowing the continent's energy problems to reach alarming levels.
He referred to the three-year long energy crisis in popularly known as ‘Dumso', which he said replicated itself in many parts of the continent.
“This ‘Dumsorisation' of African countries must stop!” he insisted.
According to him, great leaders like 's first President Kwame Nkrumah will be shocked to see the continent in it's current dark state, after building hydro electric dams and other power-generating plants to power the continent.
“Dumsor Dumsor in the 21st century when in 1950s Kwame Nkrumah said we must build the Akosombo Dam… And it's not only in Ghana but in Gambia they may call it another name but it is ‘Dumsor Dumso,' in Kenya they call it by another name but it is ‘Dumsor Dumsor” he said.
No hope for the youth
The Pan-Africanist and lawyer Professor P.L.O Lumumba has blamed the exodus of African youth fleeing the continent through dangerous means, on economic hardships and the “misgovernment” from their leaders.
Thousands of African migrants in 2015 alone have lost their lives on the Mediterranean, while several others have died attempting to enter Europe through other illegal means. According to him, the properly functioning countries such as Ghana and other countries some of the great leaders left in the 1950s and 1960s, have completely been left to deteriorate, causing continuous hardships for citizens.
Speaking on governance at the PAV Ansah Memorial Lecture in Accra on Friday Professor P.L.O Lumumba African leaders must rise up to the challenge of changing the fortunes of the continent.
Professor P.L.O Lumumba said African youth who are the next generation of leaders are unable to bear the war and poverty on the continent.
“… Because we have failed to seized to opportunity, our young men and women are drowning on a daily basis in the Mediterranean sea where they are running away from our countries to go to Europe,” he said.
