District Assembly Elections Begin Today
The District Assembly elections has started as Ghanaians are expected to the polls for the election of local representatives at the district and municipal levels.
The elections will see 18,000 candidates made up of 1,102 females and 17,783 males. On the front of the Unit Committee Elections 43,585 candidates comprising 12,000 females and 31,585 males are also standing.
The District Assembly elections over the years has recorded a poor turnout as voters say there remain no need to vote for leaders who barely contribute to community development.
President Mahama is headed to his hometown in Bole to cast his vote – an action aimed at encouraging Ghanaians to actively participate.
Voting commences at 7am and will end at 5pm.
In the meantime, about 40,000 police personnel have been deployed across the nation to ensure peace.
