A solidarity campaign has begun to bring back long serving news anchor of TV3 who is serving an indefinite suspension for what managers of TV3 say is misconduct.
The anchor has been trending on facebook and Twitter for over a week now after it emerged she had tweeted a thoroughly edited photograph of a Ghanaian football fan watching a game at Old Trafford.
Critics say the manner in which the photograph was edited and posted on her twitter
handle subtly created the impression as though she was at Old Trafford when she was not.
Authorities at TV3 have taken a serious view of the conduct of the TV star and have since suspended her.
In a statement to announce her suspension, the private TV station said “after preliminary investigations internally, and in accordance with TV3's own commitment to the highest level of professionalism, management has decided to take off air until further notice.”
“As a broadcast network that prides itself in upholding high ethical standards and delivering credible and trustworthy content to its viewers, TV3 would like to assure viewers and other key stakeholders that it shall continue to take all necessary steps to maintain such standards.”
Her suspension appears to be gaining equal measure of criticism as was her initial tweet that landed her in trouble.
Ace lawyer Ace Ankomah believes the suspension was like using a sledge hammer to kill an ant.
Some fans of the TV goddess have since moved to launch a campaign appealing to TV3 to bring back Nana Aba Anamoah.
Dubbed the #bringbackNanaAba campaign, the group is asking the TV station to let sleeping dogs lie and allow the TV star to return to the screens.
A member of that campaign, and Ghanaian comedian popularly called DKB told Joy News the campaign is not to mount pressure on TV3 but to show solidarity to a colleague and to appeal to the TV station to rescind its decision.
“TV3 should tamper justice with mercy. I do not know what code of ethics she breached. I can't go into fairness and all that. I will leave that to the lawyers. I am just doing my part to draw attention to the fact that we love her and we enjoy her on TV. It will be very awkward to tune into the morning show and he is not there for a long time,” DKB said.
He accused Ghanaians in general of being too hard on the lady.
“She committed a blunder, yes, but the mockery was too much. It looked like people were just waiting to explode on her,” he said.
