On Wednesday, December 16, 2015, Bass Awards came alive at the National Theatre and with nominations in the Best Reggae Collaboration of the Year, Reggae Song of the Year categories, Reggae Artiste of the Year and Songwriter of the Year categories, award-winning Reggae artiste was hopeful of winning all four awards.
, however won only the awards for Reggae Artiste of the Year and Songwriter of the Year out of the total of four nominations.
Impressively winning two awards out of the four nominations, Iwan, speaking to Flex Newspaper in an exclusive interview, noted that the awards mean so much to him so far as his music career is concerned as it goes a long way to prove that Ghanaians are getting to know the Real Iwan after all these years.
Apart from that, he was happy about the fact that the organizers of the awards made provision for live band performance. Even though he is happy about the awards he received, he has some reservations.
According to Iwan, Bass Awards wasn't all that fair as he expected to win more awards than the two that he had and specifically mentioned that he should have been given the Reggae Album of the Year award considering the fact that he put in so much work into his JAH Album and the album also had about 17 good Reggae tunes.
He also noted that Bass Awards was generally not properly organized and advised the organizers to learn and stop repeating the same mistakes made with the previous edition. According to him, the nomination list for Bass Awards did not come out early and the award was not given the necessary publicity as expected.
Surprisingly, days after the awards, he had the rudest shock of his life when he was notified that the award for Reggae Artiste of the Year is rather for Knii Lante.
Find below what Iwan said about the issue:
“After the program I saw online that I won two awards: Best song Writer and Best Reggae Artiste. Several days later, I heard that Best Reggae Artiste award was a mistake and it didn't go to me. But it was everywhere that I was the winner and when I was acknowledging this for my fans, to know, I didn't get any call from anyone at Bass Awards to notify me about the Change, till about a week, before they came out to say the awards went to Knii Lante.
And they never sent me any letter to render apologies, to the harm done to my image. I called Daddy Bosco to ask about the Song Writer Award and he told me in 6 weeks time, I should come for the plaque.
