There are different forms of punishment meted out to students for going contrary to what is expected of them. Being either capital or corporal, some of these punishments may not correspond to the offense committed.
artiste, Shatta Wale, has revealed that his biggest punishment in school was when he was asked to weed. Although he did not mention what he did wrong, the outspoken artiste said when he realised he could not, he pleaded but was told it was a must.
“[My biggest punishment was] when they asked me to weed a whole land. He threw a stone actually from one point to the other… I couldn't weed all so I had to go and beg him and he was like it is a decision by the school for me to do it. You know I have a very soft palm,” he said on Joy FM's Personality Profile on Thursday.
Shatta Wale disclosed he was the drummer during his days in the college with the responsibility of regulating activities.
He stated his father has been instrumental in his life. According to him, he recorded a song and showed to his father who asserted it was good but insisted he continued schooling. He decided to do music after school and eventually changed from being called ‘Doggy' to ‘Bandana'.
“I was recording with my friends when the owner of the studio said I have a good voice that he feels he can help me. When he said that, I told myself then I need to change my name from Doggy which I was using in school,” he said.
Asked why he used to be called ‘Doggy', Shatta Wale said he admired raga and artiste Yoggy Doggy at the time.
“When I was growing up, the best dancehall artiste in Ghana was Yoggy Doggy. I was always around him and wanted to be like him. So I think when I went to Secondary School that was the only name I could choose to make my name in school. So when I got the deal, I thought of changing my name. And you know I like this bandana thing. I was putting them on my waist and forehead so something told me to use it. It sounds nice, catchy…” he said.
The Kakai hit maker pointed that he decided to rebrand to Shatta Wale after consulting God.
