Two of Ghana’s music icons, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy have been listed for the African Artiste of the Year Award at the 2016 edition of the Headies.
The Headies, previously known as the Hip Hop World Awards was first held in 2006 to recognize outstanding achievers in the Nigerian music industry. It features performances by established and promising artists.
For this year’s edition, Sarkodie and Stonebwoy will battle Kenyan group Sauti Sol as well as South African rapper Cassper Nyovest and his compatriot DJMaphorisa in the category to award the best artiste from the continent.
Organizers define the category as “a non-Nigerian award category for an individual African artiste or group with the most outstanding achievement, impact and infiltration into the Nigerian music scene in the year under review.”
Meanwhile, in the biggest award category, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Falz, Yemi Alade and Olamide are in contention for the most successful artiste for the year.
The 2016 Headies will see 21 awards handed deserving artistes in the year under review July 2015 to June 2016.
