In the midst of the jubilation after Prempeh College was declared winners of the 2017 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) on Thursday, someone stole the hand bag of the quiz mistress, Dr Elsie Effah Kaufamann.
Supporters of the winning school invaded the stage at the National Theatre in Accra to take photographs with the contestants when the trophy was handed over Prempeh College.
However, in the midst of the melee, Dr Effah Kaufmann was overheard saying that her hand bag was gone, reports Graphic Online’s Emmanuel Bonney who was also on the stage to interview the contestants at that time.
The black bag with red stripes, Dr Kaufmann said contained cash, a mobile phone, her car keys, house keys, ID cards and other valuables.
Bonney reported that minutes after the bag disappeared, efforts were made to call her mobile phone but it had been switched off.
Dr Kaufmann who is the Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Ghana was shocked and bewildered at the sudden disappearance of the black bag.
Prempeh College from the Ashanti Region came up tops with 53 points at this year’s NSMQ.
The keenly contested quiz which was held at the National Theatre Thursday saw Prempeh win with 53 points.
St Thomas Aquinas in the Greater Accra Region followed closely with 51 points and the defending champions, Adisadel College trailed with 31 points.a cash prize of GH¢40,000 and packages from Tigo and GCB Bank.
